A short beginners guide to podcasts

Podcasts are a lot like radio shows, but they’re more niche! They’re about what you want to listen to and accessing podcasts is easy if you have access to the internet. Listen in on a website or find a podcasting app that suits you. All podcasts are free and most are available via apps from Apple, Spotify, Amazon and more.

Listen on a website
The easiest way to listen to podcasts is on your web browser. You can do this from a computer or from the browser on your phone. For example, here on The Village Halls Podcast, simply navigate to our Home or Episodes page and click on the play button you’ll find there and enjoy the show

On iPhone or iPad
If you have an iPhone or iPad you can use the Apple podcasts app to listen to podcasts. It should already be downloaded on your phone, but if you can’t find it simply download it from the App Store.

Open the Podcast app and go to the search page (click on the magnifying glass button in the navigation at the bottom) and start finding what you like. For example, if you search for ‘The Village Halls Podcast’ you’ll find all our episodes there. Hit the play button to listen and don’t forget to ‘Subscribe’ so you never miss an episode.

You can find more information from Apple here.

On an Android phone
If you have an Android phone, you can use the Google podcasts app. Search “Google podcasts” in the play store app and install. Again, when the app is open, simply search for podcasts using the magnifying glass icon (or ask the Google Assistant) and then tap through to the podcast’s homepage. Hit the play button to listen and ‘Subscribe’ so that the app can let you know whenever there’s a new episode.

There’s more information from Google here.

Hopefully that will help you to get started. Enjoy podcasting!
